We’ve organized this perfect day trip to Naples so that you’ll have the best of both a guided tour and free time to explore. Start your day tour with a short drive by luxury coach from Sorrento to Naples. As you travel around the base of Mount Vesuvius your guide will share with you the history of the area, tales of those that lived there and the realities of living near continental Europe’s only active volcano.
Once you arrive in the city you’ll begin a walking tour of the cities Centro Storico, the Historic Centre, starting at the Fountain of Neptune. Naples has a long history, dating all the way back to the Ancient Greeks and in the Centro Storico you’ll certainly feel the ancient heart of the city. You’ll see iconic Neapolitan structures like the Castel Nuovo also known as the ‘Maschino Angioino’ which dominates the Municipio Square, to the San Carlo Theatre which is the oldest used opera house in Europe.
Coffee culture is almost a religion in this part of the world, so we’ve planned in a short coffee stop. Your guide will introduce you to some of the rituals and practices of the Italian coffee culture while introducing you to a Neapolitan delicacy: Sfogliatella.
Catch your first glimpse of the sea as we’ll walk along the Lungomare promenade to reach the Castel Dell’Ovo. This medieval castle will give you amazing views over the bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvius and the famous islands of Capri and Ischia. Before enjoying some free time, you’ll have the chance to get your perfect Instagram photo from the Castel’s panoramic terrace. Naples is a city with a very special energy, we’ve made sure to give you enough time to explore this city at your own pace. Stroll along the picturesque waterfront promenade, or find a restaurant for a delicious Neapolitan lunch. Your guide will happily give you suggestions.
Considered to be one of the most important classical museums in the world, the Naples archaeological museum has the largest collection of Ancient Roman archaeology and some of the highest quality artefacts recovered from ancient Greece, Roman and Renaissance times. Here you’ll witness the history of these great civilizations. Experience the everyday lives of the people from Pompeii through their intricate mosaics as well as grand battle scenes. Then hop back onto your luxury coach for the scenic drive back to Sorrento.
The tour will conclude at 4 pm and the museum closes at 7.30 pm so you can stay as long as you wish.
There won’t be any planned toilet break, we advise to use a restroom before the start of the tour.
