For the first time in history, access has been opened to the underground level of the Colosseum. Tours also explore the upper levels, where you’ll get a new perspective on the Colosseum. Hear the echoes of Ancient Roman civilization as you journey through tunnels where lions and tigers once roared from their cages and gladiators sharpened their swords.
Then climb to the upper level and finally understand the magnitude of the Colosseum as you marvel over spectacular panoramic views of the amphitheater as well as the nearby Palatine Hill and Roman Forum. Remember though, these areas can only be visited on a guided tour so be sure to book now to avoid disappointment!
Your journey through Ancient Rome will also take you to the Roman Forum to the marketplace that once bustled with life, the Via Sacra which was once walked by Caesar's army returning home from war and the place where Caesar himself was cremated.
We'll step further back in time at the Palatine Hill to discover the birth of Rome. Your guide will tell you the story of Remus and Romulus the abandoned babies who, legend has it, were found in this very spot by the she-wolf who raised them as her own. Romulus is often said to be the founder of Rome, after he fought his brother for the right to establish an empire. Explore the ruins of Rome's first palaces and entertainment grounds and take in beautiful views over all of Ancient Rome.
Access is limited to only one company per slot though, so these 24 people will be alone in the Colosseum underground, upper levels and arena floor* - promising an exclusive, once-in-a–lifetime experience.
With so few other tourists around you will have the time and space to let your imagination run free in this astounding location, rebuilding the Colosseum from the ground up with the guidance of your expert tour leader. During your time in other areas of the Colosseum, as well as at the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, intimate groups allow your English-speaking guide to cater more specifically to the interests of your group.
If you are looking for a completely different view of the Colosseum and a way to experience Ancient Rome outside of loud, hectic tour groups, choose this Limited-Edition Colosseum & Ancient Rome Tour.
On this tour, some of the venues or parts of the venue may be subject to last-minute, unpredictable closures. When this occurs, we are happy to offer customers an extended tour in keeping with the advertised total length of the tour. Find hours, directions, and more for the Colosseum on this page. Due to increased security measures at many attractions some lines may form on tours with 'Skip the Line' access.
The Colosseum does not allow any company to conduct private visits to the Underground areas. Therefore, we can only run this tour as a group tour. We limit our groups to no more than 24 people to ensure the tour is special for all our guests.
If you wish to explore the Colosseum on your own after your tour, you should take our Express Colosseum Tour with Gladiator's Entrance and Special Arena Floor Access (with or without Breakfast). This gives you a guided tour of the Colosseum only. After the tour you can choose to either enjoy the skip-the-line entrance tickets to the Roman Forum (our guide would accompany you to enter but the visit is not guided) or stay inside the Colosseum without the guide.
For any other tour however, our tours follow a pattern of visit and you would not be able re-enter the Colosseum without waiting in the line and purchasing an additional ticket.
