Your day trip from Florence begins at Piazza dell'Unità Italiana. Here you will meet your group and follow your English-speaking Tour Leader aboard your bus. Your air-conditioned coach will glide through the Tuscan countryside in the direction of the World Heritage town of Siena. On route, your guide will fill you in on the history of the city and its famous street horse race which has been held since the 17th century. This fascinating local tradition is driven by highly competitive local neighborhoods who compete against each other to win the race. It is one of the few races in the world where it is legal to hinder your opponent! A local guide in Siena will cover the intrigue behind the race in much more detail once you arrive in the city.
After a short introduction to this beautiful city, it is time to get acquainted with the beautiful black and white Duomo di Siena and Piazza del Campo where the horse race takes place.
San Gimignano is next on your journey and your coach will take you through the sunny Tuscan landscape. Rolling over its hills and alongside rows of vines, you will soon be able to make out the famous skyline in the distance. Its medieval Tower houses and circling walls will instantly draw your attention. Once your coach arrives you will be free to explore the town and wander the narrow streets. Spend some time soaking up the atmosphere of this World Heritage Town. If you need help deciding what to do, your Tour Leader will be there to point you in the right direction depending on whether you prefer gelato or wine. Either way, you will get a fine taste of this Tuscan town.
We will then travel back to Florence, having seen many of the sights of Tuscany in one day. This is the ideal way to add to your growing collection of beautiful cities visited.
