We’ll start your day at one of Rome’s most famous landmarks, the Colosseum (also known the Flavian Amphitheatre). Be whisked back in time as your expert local English-speaking guide will brings the monument’s rich and bloody history to life. The site of historical turning points, the location of bloody gladiator fights and executions, the venue for ancient plays and mock sea-battles, enjoy over an hour exploring the this captivating landmark inside and out.
The Political and Economic Epicenter of Ancient Rome
Next we’ll head to the Roman Forum, the heart of the Empire. This site hosted countless historical festivals, chariot races, political debates and triumphal processions as Rome's conquering armies returned from combat, bloodied and victorious.
Rising above the Roman Forum is the most famous of the ancient city's Seven Hills - the Palatine Hill. Here it is said that Romulus and Remus were found as wolf-raised infants before going on to found Rome, which holds the vistorious brother’s name. From here you will enjoy time on your own to further explore, enjoy an authentic Italian lunch or shop for souvenirs from the local vendors. Italian Countryside and Private Wine Tasting
Step aboard your private air-conditioned coach and watch as the tranquil hills of the Castelli Romani whisk by. Here in the picturesque Frascati region of the Italian countryside we will visit the gorgeous vineyards and olive groves of the the Pallavicini family. Producing wine since the 1600s, they are one of the oldest and most honored vintners in the area, including recent awards such as the Decanter World Wine Award, Sommelier Wine Award, Vinitaly Cangrande Award and the Calix Aureus award.
Enjoy a relaxing stroll among the grape vines, olive trees and ancient ruins while learning about the phases of Pallavicini wine production. Step inside the Acacia and French Oak-lined third century barrels - built into the ruins of an Ancient Roman aqueduct - where Pallavicini wines are aged until perfection. Then enjoy a professionally-led wine tasting with a Pallavicini sommelier in the family’s 17th century farmhouse. Sip on two red wines, ‘Casa Romana’ and ‘Soleggio’; a white wine, ‘Poggio Verde’; and the their celebrated dessert wine, ‘Stillato’, before also trying their signature fresh-pressed olive oil with two types of bruschetta.
